hyperspace.ai is a deep tech startup developing infrastructure and applications at the intersection of artificial intelligence, edge computing, and human-centered design. our core product is built on a stable php (laravel) + vue.js foundation — and we are now layering advanced AI capabilities on top: large language models, retrieval systems, multi-modal agents, and more.

about the role
we're looking for a chief technology officer (cto) with strong AI expertise and technical leadership experience. you'll drive the architectural evolution of the platform, lead integration of intelligent systems, and guide a small, focused engineering team. deep php/vue skills are not required — but you should be comfortable understanding, directing, and evolving an existing stack while focusing the team toward AI-native product features.

responsibilities

• define and lead the company’s technical strategy
• design and oversee AI integrations: llms, rag, inference pipelines, agentic systems
• evolve and scale the existing infrastructure (currently on php/laravel + vue.js)
• manage engineering workflows, code quality, and performance
• build and mentor a cross-functional dev team (AI + web)
• collaborate closely with product, design, and research
• evaluate and integrate external models, services, and APIs
• make smart tradeoffs between build, integrate, and experiment

requirements

• 5+ years in engineering leadership, ideally in AI-heavy contexts
• experience building and shipping AI-enabled products
• strong understanding of llms, rag pipelines, multi-modal models, inference systems
• familiarity with AI frameworks (langchain, llamaindex, transformers, huggingface, etc.)
• ability to work across the stack and reason through backend/frontend infrastructure
• clear thinking, hands-on leadership, and good taste in tech choices
• excellent communication skills and product intuition

bonus points

• experience working with or managing legacy stacks (php, laravel, vue, etc.)
• exposure to mlops practices: model deployment, versioning, monitoring
• contributions to open-source (ai or infrastructure-related)
